yeah same here.

i think bikini kill is the only band that i have everything on vinyl.

cryptowonderdruginvogue 06.13.2008 01:56 PM

I wish I collected... things.

Rob Instigator 06.13.2008 02:04 PM

crypto, you collect experiences!

gmku 06.13.2008 03:46 PM

A complete collection? Is that possible? There are so many variations of releases, re-issues, etc. This is the point at which you could get really obsessive, as in collecting vinyl with different matrix numbers in the runoff portion and crap like that.

Sadly, I don't know the sadness you speak of nor do I think I ever will.

atsonicpark 06.13.2008 04:00 PM

I have ocd so I have to have everything... usually.

Rob Instigator 06.13.2008 04:01 PM

yeah, but yr a sick puppy gmku!

It is nice to have specialty releases and such, but I am talking about justhaving the MUSIC, once you have all the officially released music.

I am not too into getting every possible issue of the white album or stuff like that, but I like to have colored vinyl.

with bands that ahve broken up, like polvo, or unwound, there is only so much stuff out there that they put out and it is fairly easy to get to the point where there is nothing else for you to get, no music of their sthat is "new" to yr ears, you know?

gmku 06.13.2008 04:12 PM

Oh, well, in that case, I would say I have close to a complete set of the Stones. Trouble is, there's some sweet bootlegs out there of late 60s, early 70s shows that I know I will never own in the original vinyl release format. I do have a few of those, and they're some of the better ones--but truly, even though I have every official Stones album, including several in various LP releases, knowing there are all those boots out there, I could never think of it as really complete.

I seriously still think it's nearly impossible to own a complete collection. Even if you just stick to the official releases, you're still talking about an awful lot of merchandise, in a lot of cases.

Rob Instigator 06.13.2008 04:22 PM

I gots it!

hence the sadness/joy!

gmku 06.13.2008 04:24 PM

At the same time, it keeps it interesting. I'm always thinking some day I'll walk into the store and see Welcome to New York (from the 72 stones tour) on the original bootleg wax and the storeowner has ignorantly priced it at 6 bucks or something. A man can dream.

Rob Instigator 06.13.2008 04:26 PM

My friend found this John lennon bootleg, rare indeed, at a store where the owner had it marked for $15 ha ha ha ha!

gmku 06.13.2008 04:27 PM

Seriously?! What period Lennon is that? Is it live stuff or studio outtakes?

i really can't collect everything from bands i like because they are too many, some are worth the try and some aren't though; i don't obsesses though.

Rob Instigator 06.13.2008 04:47 PM

that vinyl of winston O Boogie was re-released as a Two CD thing a few years ago. I have NO idea where it originally came from!

Recently I have reached this level with Unsane, Dinosaur Jr, and Polvo. There are quite a few others in my collection that I have already "finished" while it makes me happy to find these things and to listen to them it also saddens me because that is yet another band whose name I have to cross out of my mental "to get" list.

Do any of you ever feel that way?

Mkultra is a great track, you bought yourself a right treat there, I have it on a singles and rarities compilation, but does that count as 'having it'?

pbradley 06.13.2008 05:00 PM

I rarely have enough money to spend on collecting records.

demonrail666 06.13.2008 05:08 PM

I'd only really make the effort to complete my collections of the following bands:

The Cramps
Pussy Galore
The Ramones

HECKLER SPRAY 06.13.2008 05:24 PM

The same for me, Rob.
But most of the time, I get into a new band just before finishing a collection. And most of the time, I can't finish a collection, 'cause it's difficult to find good albums here, except if I order it on the net (what I don't like to do).

Anngella 06.13.2008 06:11 PM

Lack of money/job to complete any of my collections. However, there are a lot of things (not music-related) that I would put on my "Things I Have A Lot Of" list. That sentence was awesome.

I had a shedload of Ramones records before I realised that most of them were appalling.

acdc518 06.13.2008 07:17 PM

Rob, can you post pics of the Dinosaur jr. collection?
