Sonic Nurse
Murray Street Rather Ripped |
how about "none of the above they all suck"?
since that's not an option, i think murray street is BY FAR and EASILY the best of the 3. rain on tin is great. nurse is alright, but some of the parts on some of the songs connect like shit... i'd rather not talk about ripped.. |
Quote:
wow, heh... and to be so critical have you written better songs? |
Sonic Nurse has some fantastic individual tracks, but it doesn't exactly flow well as an album for me. Murray Street flows cleanly through and through, I even love Plastic Sun.
Rather Ripped is like Experimental Jet Set for me... I listen to a few songs on occasion (mainly Kim's) and that's about it. My vote went to MURRAY STREET. |
yeah!, Murray Street is winning!!!!!!!!
|
Nurse, please.
|
Murray Street!!!!!!!!!!!
|
yes, i have written better songs than anything on nurse and rather ripped.
|
also, what kind of criticism is that anyway? i've never understood that -- "have YOU written better songs, CRITIC?" Okay, if I hadn't written better songs, so what? I've HEARD better songs. So, I can justifiably compare these (shitty) songs to (better) songs, right? Or am I not justified simply because I, myself, have not sat down with a composition I wrote and recorded and went, "I DECLARE MY SONGS ARE MUCH BETTER THAN THIS OTHER BAND'S SONGS SO NOW I CAN JUSTIFIABLY SAY THAT THAT OTHER BAND'S SONGS SUCK"?
That makes absolutely no sense. Why say anything about anything? Why have an opinion? "My opinion about the government is..." WELL, HAVE YOU BEEN IN THE GOVERNMENT BEFORE? "See, I kinda liked the film, but I thought the..." WHOA BUDDY!!! HAVE YOU MADE A FILM BEFORE? I DON'T THINK SO! "That book kinda dragged in the middle..." HEY!!!!! YOU! YOU'VE NEVER WRITTEN A BOOK! YOU'RE TOO BUSY ON THE SONIC YOUTH FORUM!!!! See what I'm saying? Why be "critical" of anything if you use that logic? Retarded. |
plastic sun is the second best track on Murray!
|
now that i'm thinking about it some more...
murray street doesn't thrill me like it did, but it was 2nd sonic youth album i ever heard. i got an early pre-release version of it from kazaa, and before that the only album i'd heard was (the amazing) confusion is sex and the song bull in the heather.... so, of course, it shocked me that they could make this music like they did, 20 years later, completely different, but still make it compelling. so, yeah, it hooked me on sy, and i proceeeded to get everything they owned... that being said, i think it's just full of good songs. just straight-up, you know, good tracks. none, besides rain on tin, are just AMAZING, but they're all just good. delicate, pretty, defeated, but... contemplative. i think it sets a consistent, interesting mood, and i dig how there are only two kim tracks (and they're at the end). haha. but she puts in a good performance. i really like the organ or whatever that is in sympathy... but yeah. nurse i was pretty keen on when it came out. but it feels a bit disconnected now that i listen to it again. kinda silly album, really. and rather ripped just sucks. |
you so crazy
rather ripped is packed with goodies!!!! sonic nurse kicks murray's ass! |
1. Sonic Nurse
2. Murray Street / Rather Ripped, it depends on my mood. |
Sonic Nurse is underrated.
The structures in the songs are amazing, I mean they really thought this album through it was not like they were saying:" Hey grab a Jazzmaster and let's make these Marshalls explode!" No, the songs are catchy and yet filled with noise. For example the solo part in Patter Recognition is fucked up beyond all recognition! I love you Golden Blue is a masterpiece and I noticed it the first time I heared the song. That song contains some off the nicest riffs I've ever heared... Bottomline is I love this album, it's also the second album I've ever bought which probably has an influence on the choice I made but that still doesn't take away the fact that Sonic Nurse ROCKS! Phew, I'm glad I got that out of my system. |
Karenology is vastly superior to Paper Cup Exit... that alone helped me make my decision!
|
Did Daycare Nation registered 9 times to vote on the Rather Ripped?
|
"Pink Steam" is the best song from any of the 3 albums. Guitar heaven.

Pink steam............ing pile of sonic shit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nah, that's probably the best song on that thing. |

I never really thougtht it was that great either. I can't believe it won that rather ripped survivor thread a while back. The vocal melody always reminded me of Radical Adults. Which is a much better song to my ears. |
pink steam rules.
he loves yr mother. he sticks it in yr mother's cunt. he makes her wetter than she has been in 20 years. he makes her pucker her asshole and stick her own finger in it. |
look, nurse is leading, but very closely murray behind, way behind rr (maybe time will change that).
|
that's not wetness, that's shit!@
|
easy one, Sonic Nurse is one of the best albums i have Ever Heard in my whole life
1)Sonic Nurse 2)Rather Ripped 3)Murray Street |

sure, right; because rain on tin and the dripping dream are not in any of those three albums...wait a minute... |
"Dripping dream? are you feeling ok? that's not even close to the best song on Nurse. Now had you mentioned "Stones" I would have thought you had some idea.
I'm also taking into consideration live performances of songs from all 3 albums. I've seen the last 3 tours (including a rare performance of D. dream) and "Pink steam" gets the nod as the best song. It just builds and builds a momentum that is pure quality. Rather Ripped = Rather Brilliant. |
1. Nurse
2. Murray 3. Ripped |
Rather Ripped is easily the best and most developed work they've done since Goo.
I do like Sonic Nurse too, but its kind of like they were they were trying to find their feet again after a few mediocre albums. I don't hate Murray St., but as a long time fan (if I can say that, being here from Sister onwards - apologies to the serious old heads for not being born earlier) RR is an absolute return to form. To dismiss it as an "easy" pop album is kind of missing the point, I think. |
spot on Kyohan
|
This was a hard call for me. I think of Murray Street and Sonic Nurse as being on the same level of excellent records. However, Rather Ripped did Rather Little for me.
|
rather ripped off is how i felt.
... for downloading it. |
When i first got Nurse it was my favourite album bar none, ever. But since then i think i've retreated a bit from it and now i like Murray Street the best.

what? cmon motherfuckers :D |
Nooooo Nurse can't win!!!, Murray Street is far superior!, i should have closed the poll when it was in the lead!
|
the lack of love for rather ripped is whats bothering me
sure thurston has some weak songs but he also did on sonic nurse plus his best one of the two is on rather ripped duh. |

kim's best song of the last 10+ years is on that though so whats there to do |
everyone who i know who has any intelligence thinks rather ripped sucks dick.
|
You say "sucks dick" like it's a bad thing.
|
my girlfriend sucks dick and I think she's beautiful.
that makes Rather Ripped one hell of a beautiful album |
