The Young ones is still ace. The thing with British Comedy up to that point and it only really ended in the nineties is they were all mates at Cambridge so there was a tendency towards smugness, especially as they got older. The worst of course is Ben Elton who is now so smug they should be able to harness it as a fuel source.

You can get a lot of the Chris Morris Radio 1 show on Soulseek, that is awesome, and the Blue Jam radio show was amazing.

Did you ever see the Jerry Springer Opera, that was really funny.

I saw Stewart Lee opening for Jim Tavare at a show in Chichester, probably somewhere around 1990. He walked on stage and opened with "I see the Queen Mother's just turned 90. She's looking good on it. But then she would, wouldn't she, living on a diet of swan and never having done a day's work in her life". Cue silence...

bytheriver 05.23.2006 08:18 AM

Do you remember a sketch where they were pitching sitcom ideas, one of them was "The Bent Coppers - two policeman live together, one's gay, one's corrupt, and they both suffer from curvature of the spine - and are robots made of copper"

porkmarras 05.23.2006 08:34 AM

Stewart Lee is a lovely man too.I used to talk to him from time to time when his and Richard Thomas's 'Jerry Springer The Opera' was at the Nt wich is where i work.I've seen Richard Thomas's band Hary Butter playing live at the ICA once and they were a terribly nice mess. The coolest thing about Stewart was seeing him(still a fox even though he put on a bit of weight over the years) wearing a NEU t-shirt in the Green Room

Toilet & Bowels 05.23.2006 11:09 AM

i saw stewart lee doing a gig in a pub in camden a year or two ago, his total mastery of comedy was on a par as a spiritual experience with any of the best music gigs i've ever been to.

One of my favourite sketches in Jam is when the doctor asks the patient to ring him from his own studio to make an appointment.I also love Rowena the thick woman employed by the agency that employes thick people because they are particularly good at winning arguments.I've managed to get a dvd copy of The Armando Iannucci Show and that i soooo deliciously mental too.I love the woman who decides to move out of her house because her doctor tells her that she has another 32 years to live. She has a cab waiting outside and herself and her husband go to live in Disneyland.haha

TheDom 05.24.2006 02:46 PM

Did anyone see Conan last night?

He had this hilarious stand up guy. Some British dude.

It was crazy. He wouldn't stop moving!

acousticrock87 05.24.2006 02:49 PM

Dammit. I watch Conan every night, and last night I fell asleep early because of a migraine. Was it a new episode? Cause they had a hyper British guy on pretty recently.

khchris(original) 05.24.2006 03:14 PM

Old Diceman, Jim Breuer, dangerfield.

I haven't watched it in a while.

Is the on you are talking about the one where that random guy plays the theme song on guitar?

The best underground comedian ever ever ever... is a guy named Rick Shapiro. He's a real New York comedian and is fucking out of his mind. He's been doing it for years and is only now getting a little bit of success. He's now involved with some kind HBO comedy series so he's in LA a lot too... but for the longest time he was the starving artist type and a couple years ago I used to see him play every week at the Sidewalk Cafe on 7th and Ave. C. He's back in New York for a while (saw him play Sidewalk last Friday for the first time in a year) and is completely outrageous. If you want "offensive," "outrageous," "stream-of-conscious," "subversive" and other bullshit praise adjectives that don't hold a candle to what this man actually does, check him out.

marleypumpkin 05.24.2006 05:21 PM

Man, I'm forgetting alot of great stand-up comedians.
This comedian deserves another mention; Rodney Dangerfield

bytheriver 05.25.2006 09:36 AM

Armando Annuci said one of the truestthings I've evr heard 'the only two things guaranteed to give hapiness are opening a new cd and seeing a friend fail'

i'm a guitar 05.25.2006 09:47 AM

Not much stand up. But I really like this sketch.

LittlePuppetBoy 08.19.2006 02:23 PM

Dane Cook
Jerry Sienfeld
Mitch Hedberg (that guy was absolutely hilarious!)

Pax Americana 08.19.2006 02:53 PM

I don't watch much stand up, but I thought Mitch Hedberg was awesome.

acousticrock87 08.19.2006 03:03 PM

I hope this guy makes it big.
