Actually America already is a Socialist state in a lot of ways. I don't think that is necessarily good or bad, but it's funny to hear the neo-cons go on about fear of socialism when they don't even know what it is. Farm subsidies, gas price manipulation, FEMA, Medicade, Social Security, the list goes on.

No we aren't as overtly socialist as France or England, but anyone who thinks we really have a free market economy is seriously delusional, and that was before the supposed neo-con capitalist Bush administration Treasury Department bought controlling stocks in all of the major financial institutions!

Even Bush's inane No Child Left Behind program is pure socialism in that it takes public education and through standardized tests makes it easier for the government to quantify results and work to make all educators teach the same materials in the same manner.

In reality, as Hitler's National Socialists clearly demonstrated, a large military budget is the surest sign of socialism (i.e. the government controlling the economy and industrial sector, though in the U.S. we pretend the Defense Dept. and defense contractors are separate entities even though the same people usually work for both at different times).

So when right wingers go on about fear of America turning to socialism it's always pretty amusing. They got upset about gas going over $4 a gallon when our government was holding that price down for them while the rest of the world paid at least twice as much.

Oh, and I'm happy Obama won, though I don't think he can work miracles or walk on water.

He's intelligent, and I believe sincere, and has not only beat out the Republicans but the Reagan-Democrats of the Clinton family as well.

If the rest of the world decides to like America a little bit more, that is a good thing, especially if it ends up being because we start to deserve it again. We better make friends with the rest of the world, because it happens we owe them a lot of money.

it is a great day in us history, against my own will i find i might actually be hopeful - the prospect of no more bush! someone who would return us to a humanist, not mechanist, tradition.

weird, heading home from a blasting mv/ee set to come across a huge crowd of several 100 dancing people at Bedford and N 7 and then again at St Marks and Ave A, which I think was about to get broken up as I saw 6 police vans race downs st marks with lights flashing as I crossed 1st Ave, cops seemed restrained, I was going to go out and see if anything crazy goes down but I can't find my blank film and it is 2am.

repeater 11.05.2008 02:41 AM

Congratulation dear Americans!

Great day for America

greedrex 11.05.2008 03:50 AM

BRAVO!!!!!

candymoan 11.05.2008 03:50 AM

obama thanks "...the young people who rejected the myth of their generation's apathy.." in his victory speech..

he has integrated the aspect of "hope" and the ideal for "change" in his campaign.. and that resonated with the american public..

okay, that means something..
i share the excitement, but all in all, it is still politics and i reserve my right for cynicism..

good luck, everyone...

al shabbray 11.05.2008 03:57 AM

YAY!
see how long he will survive ....

pbradley 11.05.2008 04:18 AM

75 days until Bush leaves office.

(edited cuz it sounded like I was answering al shab's question)

al shabbray 11.05.2008 04:23 AM

hrhrhr

@pbradley:
you mentioned you will play fallout 3 on your macbook...
will it run?
Ive got a macbook too, but no pro, with the dual 2.0 ghz intel processor and 2 gigs of ram, I would kill for fallout 3

MellySingsDoom 11.05.2008 04:39 AM

Hooray for Obama's win. Now I look forward to seeing what he actually does - let's see if the substance of the man can live up to his public persona.

And still 2 more months of George W. Gump....

83% downloaded. Don't know if it will work. It should. Your computer sounds like mine so if this does work, I'll pm you the torrent link.

al shabbray 11.05.2008 04:52 AM

That ain't gonna last long--look at a before and after picture of any president--it ages you a lot.

Rob Instigator 11.05.2008 10:15 AM

it is an amazing feeling and hopefully rips to shreds the old ideas and dichotomies regarding our elected officials. BUSH IS FIRED

gmku 11.05.2008 11:00 AM

Obama rocks. Finally, it looks like we'll have a smart president in office again.

Sheriff Rhys Chatham 11.05.2008 01:27 PM

I think he is a great guy, a great speaker, and a great person but I just don't think things will pan out like every one thinks.

Hmm, seems like macbooks (except macbook pro) don't have a strong enough graphics card to meet the minimum system requirements.

Taft was one of the most corrupt presidents of all time.

Read about his administration. They were pretty much his drinking buddies and completely unqualified for public service.

Ron Paul should be president.

Taft attained "baller" status when he had to have his own custom bath tub.

nothing ever does, but the hope and the ideals to strive for are important.

Bush's ideals were...what were they actually?

gmku 11.05.2008 03:27 PM

ZERO, Goddamnit, where the fuck's my damned rep!!!???

SynthethicalY 11.05.2008 04:47 PM

I am in a bittersweet mode today. I am happy Obama won, but sadden that gay marriage is now illegal here in Cali.

GeneticKiss 11.05.2008 04:56 PM

Yeah, my sister and her girlfriend were gonna go get married in California early next year.

Homophobia sucks.

Does any state still allow gay marriage?

SynthethicalY 11.05.2008 04:59 PM

Mass. but you have to move there. I am dissapointed. See this is what happens when you set your hopes up high.
