John Mayer is a fucking awesome guitarist. I'd say potentially one of the best in the world, with time. Neon has one of the best acoustic riffs ever written.

As 'controversial' as this opinion may be, I have to add Leonard Cohen to the above list.

Johnny Cash as well. The good stuff is very, very good, but there's about 2 and a half albums of good stuff up until American man 2 (because the first one's shit).

Well, in Cohen's case it's usually the backup singers that make me want to harm myself or others. In the case of Dylan or Waits, it's the lead voice that makes me want to shove icepicks in my ears (sterilized first of course; I am no barbarian).

Throw in Nick Drake as well.His music makes me want to jump off a cliff.
