oh shit i forgot about intervention
my favourite is the crazy drunk woman who takes limo rides with her cat. |
Quote:
Well, it's not FUNNY, but you know what I mean. |
Quote:
it was funny. it was. |
Quote:
No, I haven't. It's probably on the internet though, most are. My favorite was probably the guy who wanted to be a DJ and did a bunch of mushrooms and other things. I felt bad for him though :( |
Why should anyone feel guilty about thinking any of what's on this show is funny--except to realize that you're being suckered in by the producers?
Intervention is pure entertainment, as is most train-wreck so-called journalism. If they were serious about this show, they'd truly explore addiction, as in delving into the reasons behind it, the psychology, the physiology, social and cultural factors, etc. |
Well, human misery isn't really "funny," ya dig?
|
|
Then why do they put it on as entertainment?
I'm just saying that's the premise of the show--a voyeuristic look at human misery. If not meant as outright funny, it's meant as something for us to enjoy, to feel entertained by. If the intention were otherwise, there wouldn't be the same formula of just following people around as they fuck up on drugs. It's not educational, it's pure junk television. |
Quote:
I wont deny that Intervention is entertainment because it is. It's Intervention because that's what they do. They show so and so's little story and they they do the intervention and send them off the rehab. |
i'll watch anything on discovery except the gambler shows, fishing and structures. i love mythbusters, dirty jobs, overhaulin and i also love animal planet and sometimes national geographic.
now, i like beavis and butthead, sopranos, and a bunch of shit i dont want to name now. |

junkies and their enablers are BORING
![]() unless they kick it glam junkie style!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Even I look at it and say to myself, "Ok, allright, I'm not THAT bad." |
the BEST intervention episode was the alcoholic italian woman, marie. i loved that all the women named their daughters after themselves and the crazy dead husband bora. 48 minutes of solid gold entertainment.

Ha, ha. Yeah, that's the basis of a LOT of trainwreck television journalism. "Look at that trainwreck of a life--at least I'm not over THERE." Same thing goes for the paedo Dateline episodes. "Oh, look at those sick bastards. At least I don't do THAT." But there's nothing educational about them, no depth. Just shock entertainment. |

YES YES YES YES! I absolutely love this show! |

WKRP In Cincinnatti - re-runs air at 6:00PM and 6:30PM every sunday on WGN. my favorite sitcom of all time. No kids!
Survivor - been watching since the first one. My favorite reality show. I like when it gets down to 6-7 people and they are all hungry and paranoid and disheveled. Inside The NFL - used to be on HBO, now on Showtime. Uses only NFL Films footage for the highlights of the week's games. the best. Top Chef - catching up to this season's new ones. How It's Made - I always want to know how everything is made. Dirty Jobs - the guy cracks me up and he really gets down into the dirt. quite the gross show. responsible for three of the grossest things I have ever ever seen. (the leather tannery, the solid waste (shit/piss) disposal building, and the leather tannery again) |

Survivorman is definately the best of it's kind; totally blows Man vs. Wild out of the water. How it's made is awesome too, although sometimes it seems like they are stretching it, with stuff that isn't really interesting. Exact same thing for Dirty Jobs too. |
dirty jobs relies on viewers to send them places, and sometimes either the place or the people at the place are not the most TV friendly.
|
I have watched re-runs of married.. with children, probably every SINGLE day since 1997. It is as much a part of my daily routine as prayer and food.
![]() That is the only commercial television I still watch. Other than that I am a PBS junky. NOVA FRONTLINE INDEPENDENT LENS BBC WORLD AMERICAN EXPERIENCE GLOBAL VOICES these are what I watch when I indulge in TV, so that at least I can learn while also not being exposed to the brainwashing and classical conditioning of advertising |

Haha. |
old school! Quote:
I can't stand commercials, they literally offend my soul! I have to change them instantly, and I will put on the worst crap PBS has to offer, even boring things like Scientific American with Alan Alda or some kind of low-budget documentary about the development of Cleveland's sanitation system just to avoid them. |
i love love love scientific american frontiers with alan alda.....

30 rock
arrested development sarah silverman program stella the state freaks and geeks umm that's all i can think of at the moment. i don't have or watch much tv. |
Quote:
Commercials used to not bother me so much, but now that I have a kid and can see their effect, I hate them. Fortunately we don't have cable, so the only channel that would have anything on for here during the day is PBS. (Although I think even they stretch the definition of "educational television" sometimes. Maybe kids should do something else OTHER than watch TV? haha :) ) |
Quote:
not just kids. the news and global perspective puts me in front of my TV much more often than I would like, and consoling myself with the fact that it is positive still leaves a bad taste in my mouth sometimes.. but like most americans, I am rather addicted to visual stimulation, and you can't read a book and smoke a joint, and further, I read a pile of books a week as it is, sometimes you need to take a break from active viewing with reading to passive with watching TV... compromises compromises.. |

I agree, I just meant that I notice it more with a kid... |
Of current/recent series:
Dexter (holy crap, it's good this season!) True Blood (I'm a convert) Burn Notice (when's it coming back???) |
The promos say Burn Notice is coming back in January, I think they might be doing what they do with Monk or what Battlestar Galactica is doing, showing like 8-10 episodes then take a break then comes back early next year with another 8-10 episodes and they say its from the same season.
|
Damn, I miss Burn Notice. I really got into it over the summer.
|
I also don't care if you judge me. I like Lost.
Though it's gone downhill, the first 2-3 seasons were so fucking good that it has kept me hooked and I'm still waiting for the upcoming season. |
