Whatdya think? Alternatives?

I think that you look good in dark green, well-cut denim, black or generally darker pastel colours.

As for the shoes, you don't wanna wear anything mis-matched with something that is going to turn you into a twat at an old age like yours, do you?

A simple and solid design that is pleasing to the eye without standing out too much would do the trick. Clarks is very much a brand that design shoes for that purpose. Doc Martens still retain a certain timeless appeal and seem to be flexible shoes, so go for that sort of thing. You can get many types of shoes that can fit stylishly into your age category and are varied in suitable materials for every season, just look around.

Thanks, Porky. I think I'm going for one of the sneaker options in brown leather. Do you like the Purcells and the PF Flyers?

Whatever you do, don't wear eyeliner with those clothes or you'll feel like you are living inside a castle built on really tenuous foundations.

Te colour is a little too bright. He might prefer something a bit more understated than that.

ALIEN ANAL 06.13.2008 07:58 AM

Somebody told me that you will be wearing these shoes soon.

ALIEN ANAL 06.13.2008 08:28 AM

pirate shoes?

gmku 06.13.2008 03:53 PM

It occurs to me... I'm entrusting my fashion decisions to a cantankerous teenager, a gay Brit, and a bunch of drugged-out rehab-dropout losers. God, I'm worse off than I fucking thought. Screw all you, the only ones I trust around here anymore are girlgun and he who types in the upper case number keys for a name.

gmku 06.13.2008 04:19 PM

The wallabees are the only Original Clarks I really don't like. I think they're goofy.

I've backed way back from the Topsiders, by the way. That's why I always take at least a week to decide on my shoe purchases.

Why would you even suggest that I might wear liner? Sheesh...

gmku 06.15.2008 11:30 AM

Just so you know why I'm obsessing over this... Last night my wife did forbid me to wear anything but sandals with my linen shirt and khakis, because according to her, shoes don't go with summer linen shirts. I was forced to wear my Tevas which I hate, because I have no Birks right now or other choice in the sandal area. I asked her what other alteratives she thinks work, and she replied, "Sperrys or another lightweight loafer type shoe that you can wear without socks."

SO there you go. If I had my Sperrys, I could have sat in the restaurant without my toes exposed.

She won't go out in public with me if I'm wearing my Converse oxfords, so I'm not sure, as far as a social shoe, that the Purcells or Flyers are going to cut it. I think I'm going to have to take one for the team on this one and opt for a pair of Sperrys for such contingencies. Then I'll get the Purcells or Flyers for less spousal-dicated occasions.
