New York music histroy documentary on UK BBC2, 13 Jan, 11.30pm
Once Upon a Time in New York
Sun 13 Jan, 11:30 pm - 12:30 am How the squalid streets of New York in the 1970s gave birth to music that would go on to conquer the world - punk, disco and hip hop. Inspired by the Velvet Underground, a new wave of 'punk' rock emerged in lower Manhattan. Meanwhile, downtown loft parties heralded the birth of disco, which would eventually spawn the ultimate club Studio 54. But the swanky mid-town discos were out of bounds to black New York, so in the Bronx DJs created their own parties, heralding the birth of hip hop. Strong language. |

Louis Theroux was great, although the pedophiles he spoke to creeped me out to the core, made me feel sick. |
Did he speak to Paedophiles? I dont think he did.
|
the plot synopsis sounds just like NY77- Coolest Year in Hell that was on VH1 last year I wonder if its the same program.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1080761/ ah, nvm, it's not the same program: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0984082/ |
yeah - love theroux. He spoke to the paedos in that yard just before they all sat down and were heckling him to get out. It's weird how the homos seemed to be the smartest ones in there though... I think I was falling for deborah in there.
|
urgh.
I think ive seen the music doc before, i remember the Patti Smith bit. Were the Paedophiles the Christian ones who were praying? I dont recall them saying what it was they did. I taped it too, perhaps ill watch it again. |
ive got em both recorded on the sky+, what a wonderful piece of technology it is!
|
Yeah, those guys didn't say what it was that they did. I think it was fairly apparent that they were paedos though. They 'didn't want to say' what they were in for but it was pretty obvious.
|
they didn't want to say, and afterwards when they left the yard the guard told Louis that they were pedophiles . But you could totally tell that from looking at them, all that shit they were talking about the devil making them do bad things, they should be shot.
The documentary was good, i loved all the hip hop stuff, that was the most interesting part for me. |
This seems like something I would really enjoy. And it's too bad there are no active torrents for it anymore (I checked) because the program being posted about seems to have originally aired in early '07.

you can get it on the iplayer on the bbc.co.uk website... I'm not sure if you're in america - but even then im sure theres a way around that region locking though i dont know exactly how.
|
Unfortunately the iplayer doesn't work outside the UK.
|
I think it's the same one I watched on stage6 a while ago. I'll see if I can find it.
edit: it is. I was going to post it in that online music documentary thread earlier but couldn't find it. http://www.stage6.com/user/DJJonD0e/...me-in-New-York http://openflv.com/watch?v=NTAxMjUxNQ==&p=0 picture quality is a bit crappy, but it's entertaining enough to watch i think. |
i think this is what you want, if you can work it out.
