You could go to bed, there's no reason to stay up till half past two in the morning if you can't think of anything to do.

Derek 12.31.2008 09:32 PM

Another great suggestion. However I can't sleep everytime I'm bored!

Boredom is an admission of a lack of imagination.

One thing that I've got better at this past year is, when I'm nearing boredom, I'll try to do something useful as opposed to just distracting myself: read a good book or learning guitar.

You don't kill boredom, boredom kills you. Draw a picture.

schizophrenicroom 01.01.2009 06:11 PM

john berryman has a poem saying "to admit you're bored means you have no inner resources."

Laziness is also another toxic fuel to throw onto the fire of boredom. I speak as someone who is far to lazy for his own good.

flophousefloozie 01.01.2009 06:16 PM

Try knitting!

davenotdead 01.01.2009 06:21 PM

try watching webcam gurlz

acousticrock87 01.01.2009 06:24 PM

To say that boredom is a lack of imagination is just nonsense. Escapism can be as dangerous as doing nothing, sometimes. Boredom is a lack of outer resources, or motivation to find them.

greedrex 01.01.2009 06:26 PM

listen to the Boredoms.

atsonicpark 01.01.2009 06:28 PM

I just find that with the internet, music, movies, books, video games, meditating, etc... it's hard to be bored. dON't forget songwriting..

wikipedia and textfiles.com alone gurantee I'm not bored very often.

atsonicpark 01.01.2009 06:30 PM

look what I just learned

A wolf tone, or simply a "wolf", is produced when a played note matches the natural resonating frequency of the body of a musical instrument, producing a sustaining sympathetic artificial overtone that amplifies and expands the frequencies of the original note, frequently accompanied by an oscillating beating (due to the uneven frequencies between the natural note and artificial overtone) which may be likened to the howling of the animal. A similar phenomenon is the wolf interval, usually between E flat and G sharp, of the various non-circulating temperaments.

Toilet & Bowels 01.02.2009 07:04 PM

boredom can also be caused by the frustration of wanting to do a particular thing and not being able to, making propect of doing anything else seem dissatisfactory.

I can't tell you how irritating the 3 wolf tones on my violin are.

play on the internet/computer
draw
watch a movie

pbradley 01.05.2009 06:12 AM

Giving a person suggestions as to what to do when bored is pointless. If the person actually *wanted* to do any of those things, they would have thought to have done them already. Trying to chase away terminal boredom is nearly impossible.

Best thing I would suggest is to wait it out and realize that sometimes the world does fine without you. Soon (read: almost eternity) some ship shall pass your deserted island.
