Horror Archetypes
Which do you prefer? Poll to follow.
I don't know why the ghosts have to be simple, when apparently even the zombies are allowed to be complicated. But I like the discorporeal a lot.
i like all of them for various reasons. i put serial killer because thats what scares me the most right now.
I prefer Biblical terror. Please amend your poll to include 'vengeful God(s)'.
I think zombies have been removed from their most Kafka-esque qualities but I still prefer them in that sense of the inversion of death, etc.
I have to restrain myself from thinking that anyone with an interest in any of these is a complete spacktard, I really do.
Probably zombies. Man, I just realized that there have been soooo many vampire movies coming out lately.

No witches?
viruses. that shit scares me no end.
I wanted to pick serial killers and werewolves. Though I cant think of any good werewolf horror off the top of my head, the idea of them is more interesting than anyone else. I'm kinda tired of vampires and zombies. Serial killers can be pretty fucked up in how sneaky, human, and happy to torture me in elaborate ways they are.
I guess the real threat of physical control and torture is more terrifying to me than mythology. |
I would have to say Vamps n Zombies dood.
lol mummies?
I'm going to have to go with werewolves. I prefer lycanthrope mythology, and the reflection of our contrasting superegos, and ids.
I especially adore werewolves that look like Katharine Isabelle. ![]() She gives me a full moon. Quote:
That's a real shame. |
I used to prefer Vampires, but all this shit ruined it. FUCKERS
It's vampires for me. The thought of living forever as long as human blood is drunk and possessing supernatural powers is the most appealing and romantic.

Yeah, I like the idea of werewolves. I think they're held back though by the general lack of good werewolf films. American Werewolf in London, The Howling, Wolfen, Ginger Snaps. Not much else. I blame Teen Wolf. |

classic choice of the free marketeer |
I prefer Scientist's Monsters.
but not the frankenstein kind. more like bioterror. |
have you seen The 4-D Man? You really seriously should.
i put serial killers mostly because of henry: portrait of a serial killer with michael rooker and kalifornia with brad pitt (still his finest performance)...
I like it when the villain's victims turn into murderes themselves. Or something goes wrong, like a vampire sucking blood off someone with AIDS. Also, animals and cars. Zombies often get on my tits because they look like twats.
zombie apocalypse y'all
not a fan. horror movies gross me out and I dont get the point.
I picked vampires because I think goth chicks are sexy, and I like goth music.
However, Twilight is slowly but surely beginning to ruin the subgenre... I'm not sure what Yureis are... |
i like occult/religious horrors, so i guess that means demons, witches, satanists etc
ghosts will always be the scariest because they are less obvious. really good serial killers can do that too, but movies about serial killers generally focus on the obvious ones.
Body Horror
yureis are japanese ghosts
I was mostly won over by the zombie archetype at some point in high school when I read Franz Kafka's *Metamorphosis* for the first time. At that point, and pretty much ever since then, I became fascinated with the idea of the inexplicable event. An event for which there was no cause. An event of absolute absurdity.
Romero's Night of the Living Dead immediately appealed to me on this intellectual level. Despite the characters attempt to give a cause to the apocalypse in order to satisfy this dimension of meaning, there simply wasn't one. The dead got up and began to eat the living. This is why I have a strong aversion to zombie films that present contagious virus explanations or the like. Really, what's the point? |
i think there's a pretty large surplus of quality zombie related films
werewolves are the coolest but there really aren't many great films about them does serial killers include like michael myers and that type of thing? if so then that's def. number one. i voted for werewolves because i want more of them |

Oh yeah, I should've picked up on the "rei" part... Maybe I should change my vote to that, because it seems like a lot of Japanese spirits that hang around the Earth realm don't have good intentions for the living (cases in point: The Grudge, The Ring, Bleach, Fatal Frame)... |
Due to my current fascination with the figure of Lilith
i voted for Vampires. |
the only people who really scare me are the rich beyond the reach of the law (e.g. prick cheney) and real-life mafiosos. when they are combined in a single person (e.g prick cheney) their existence is truly nightmare-inducing. basically because no matter how much you could personally kick their ass and rip their pacemaker off their chests with your bruce lee fingers, fat chance even laying a hand on them before their minions get you like they got scarface.

dolls?
Serial killers. Vampires are stupid. I don't understand the facsination. Why would you want immortality? After awhile you gotta just get bored.

Teenagers always complain they're bored. So why not reduce the lifespan of a human to just several years to avoid the onset of boredom? |
anything to do with the sea or sharks and things like that gives me the chills like nothing else.
