richard hammond critical after 280 mph crash
presenter of bbcs top gear motoring show is lying in a stable but in intensive care after crashing his vampire jet car at an airfield in england in an attempt to break the british landspeed record. richard who is a long time driver of high performance vechicles and was well trained to do this attempt, lost control of the car mioments after he completed his final run of the day. the car veered left after the parachutes were deployed and dug into wet grass, flipped and destroyed itself. hammond was concious for moments after the medics arrived.
this has nowt to do with music or sy but i thought i musnt be the only one here who enjoys automotive endeavours and that respects him and wishes him the best. ![]() ![]() richard and the vampire car |
That's a bummer. He's a funny guy, and I like TG.
yeah, he is funny. like a foil to clarkson. at least he seems to be on the mend. lets hope that there is no neurological damage cuz thats the fear at the moment.
280mph is no joke. He's lucky to still be alive.
damn straight. you can be killed at 40mph let alone 280. there are reports that he lost it at 315mph but who knows. very very lucky to survive.
What is the land speed record?
This was such a shock when I first heard it on TV. You just don't expect things to go wrong, do you?
I know somebody who has just won a dinner date with him. He's supposed to be a really nice bloke.
i'm sorry to rain on parade. i fuckin HATE Top Gear (i have silly reasons for this... silly but they are reasons all the same)
so to finish i know its a terrible thing that happened. and i feel for the guy, but god damm it it should have been jeremy clarkson. |

Absolutely, it's a horrible programme and JC is unwatchable. But Richard hammond is still supposed to be nice from what I've heard. |
But then did you know him personally to say that he was a nice person?Eh?Eh?Eh?Eh?
EDIT: No, but I know a few people who know him and I'm willing to take their word for it.
And his brother comes into my shop a lot, not that that's got anything to do with it. |
good i hope if keeps him off the fucking telly for a while. hope he doesnt die though thats too far.
he has some pretty seriousd views about asylum seekers and beggars etc. |

mmm, fill me in here, i missed this |
Yes, please do. I thought Clarkson was the most right wing of them or is he just more of a loudmouth?
what i saw on top gear he was making fun of them and that other show the science abuse one on sky one.
ok, i know that this aint a thing most of us like but i do and felt it had to be shared...
latest update......... richard suffered a "significant brain injury" doctors are hopeful of a "good recovery". it does seem we wont see him on telly again and that is horrible for his family first of all and also for fans of his programmes, i include myself in that. i wish him the best for the future, very sad story. |

thanks fishmonkey. im much a motorsport fanatic as a sy fanatic so i thought id do my bit, thats all......
It's at times like this that the television news media really start to piss me off. This morning the breakfast TV channels were competing to see who could provide the most "exciting" coverage. BBC, who should have more respect, were hovering above the crash site in a helicopter saying "and here you can see where the skid started... here you can see where the car left the track... here you can see the gouges in the grass where the car went over and over... and here is where the car came to rest...". Sick bastards.

totally, and it's not like he was even this hugely known guy, i couldn't have told you his name before all this happened, i just knew him as clarkson's short unfunny sidekick. |
agreed sonicl. he may be short but i reckon he is funny. bbc is shitting itself quietly right now!
he was hugely known if u are a car/motorsport enthusiast in fairness |
I hope he is ok but I hope they never show or make another episode of that fuckin 'brainiac' show. I hate it with a passion
he he, i think its funny in a pure 14 year old nerdy way. i am a huge fan of to gear tho... go on shoot me, im not afraid to admit it. my 5 year old girl is real upset, she has a thing for richard........
Well I didn't mind Top Gear, I thought it had some cool stuff on it sometimes but Brainiac is horrible. Everytime I have the misfortune of seeing it as I flick through channels they are blowing up a car. It is not brainy at all, it's for mentally retarded people
so lung your from leeds. are you in LS6?
the keyfob thru a mobile to unlock yr car was a good thing tho.
I can't say the guy didn;'t know what he was doing. But when yr in a rocket car that goes 300 miles per hour, you have to be able to accept what happens when the shit hits the fan.
yeah, he knew the risk but that doesnt make the situation any better. same as a footballer getting badly injured or something. risk is inherent with all forms of motorsports and speed but when an accident of this magnitude happens it still is awful, especially for whos left behind. i believe tho richard possibly was motivated to accept this challenge due to his passion for speed and cars, his eagerness, his desire to please himself although i question the bbc for allowing him to do so as surely driving at 300+mph requires certain training let alone its powered by a jet engine. thats why i reckon the bbc are shitting it at the moment.... all of that said, it doent make richard better or ease the pain for the family and friends.
any motorsport fans on here care to share an opinion? |
