Did anyone else just witness NFL history?
 

A missed 52-yard Jay Feely field goal attempt for the New York Giants was recepted by Devin Hester (#23) of the Chicago Bears. He hesitated for a couple of moments, the Giants figured he was making a fair catch and taking a knee for a touchback, and then he just took off going 108 yards, from near the back of his end zone, all the way for a touchdown. It's the longest play in NFL history.

What is it about sports teams from Chicago and the number 23?
What is it about the number twenty-three in general? Any Robert Anton Wilson heads out there reading?

And so do I. I'm very much enjoying some ATP tennis at the Masters Tournament in Shanghai, but the above Sunday Night Football occurrence was worthy of turning the stereo down for and hearing the commentary. Federer just won and now Roddick has a match.

actually, he wore #45 when he went back. and then changed it back to 23.

I cherish that I got to see most of Jordan's games in his prime and before that, with the North Carolina Tarheels. Add to his nearly peerless athletic prowess that he's a man who could meld art with commerce tastefully and that he is a very ethical person, yet not uptight.


I think Feely is a pretty damn good kicker.
Unfortunately though, he seems to only fuck up under the pressure in big mass-audience games, thus earning the bad reputation among quite a number of people like yourself. Oh, and SNL did that funny sketch about him.

Yeah I was watching......the Sunday night games have been way better than the Monday night ones.

The fact there are a lot of cool people who like sports (some of whom are on this very board) is not enough to convince me that sports are worth my time. I have never understood the appeal. Then again, I'm just a "big fucking poseur with a stick up his ass and an axe to grind" anyway, so my opinion isn't worth much.

My opinion is worth much more than anyone else's on this board and I agree with you, Clone. Sports are fucking lame.

I like the NFL as a kid, and I've been a tennis fan since high school. Then, for a few formative years, I didn't pay much attention to sports either because there was always so much going on and I used to have to work a lot harder and put in long hours from time to time at various jobs.
And then by the time I was in the latter half of my twenties I became a sports fan again.

No one is trying to convince you that you're not cool if you don't like sports.
You start off so nicely qualifying everthing articulately "I (just myself personally) think of (whatever it is being discussed) as" ...you do this so politely, and then you immediately go into:

Why is it that naerly every time sports are written about there's always this same bullshit? One thing explains it:

I can understand liking sports more than I can understand liking the art of Jenny Holzer.

It's just ridiculous that this dance and all the other silly dances have to take place in eternal reccurence. It's like people get contunally hung-up on acting & performing for the benefit of the newer people that may not have caught all your insightful, witty, stock opinions. That's how I view it.

I quoted a line. Big deal. Just because I know of the phrase and utilized it to display that I understood the context of someone else's post, doesn't necessarily mean that I have ten Holzer books laying about and am continuously discussing her art.

Text is a very flat mode of communication.
I guess sometimes I forget how differently I can come across in my own mind vs. on the board.
I thought we were speaking to each other. The thought of the "new people who don't know my stock opinions" didn't even cross my mind.
I haven't even been posting as much lately; this is the most active I have been in days on end. I guess maybe that is the direction I should go, as I have become so "predictable."
