Someone in SY needs to have another sex scandal to liven up this place
Since they will not be releasing any new albums, there is nothing to keep this place lively. A sex scandal would do the trick.
Maybe Steve needs to bone the entire cast of Girls? |
i hugged him once, does that count?
|
did you or he grunt?

maybe they should reform as a sports franchise |
Word on the street is that North West isn't Kanye's kid... it's Steve's
|
How about me just pause, reflect, and enjoy 30 years of back catalog as if it weren't enough ;)
|
I always reflect on Kim Gordon's "back catalog"
|
You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to Rob Instigator again.
|
Hurr Hurr Hurr
|
if he ever actually met kim he'd shrivel up like a little bitch.
he should put his mouth where his keyboard is or shut up. |

he's doing just fine... |

all the visitors and newbies are posting on the Sonic threads and the music sharing threads. They are here, just not posting elsewhere. And I agree. I blame gast. |
If I met Kim it would be so glorious. Steve and Lee were both so nice.
|
Maybe SY need to do guest spots on Girls, and on whatever else the young people are watching these days.

Correction. There is no Sonic Youth anymore. But further, Sonic Youth HAVE had their tracks played on all kind of popular TV shows, didn't seem to make an impact |
maybe then, they need to cultivate some young up-and-comer (even though rock is dead) and have him/her praise the Youth a lot, and then have them be killed by their spouse? The last time they did that SY got a whole lot of new fans!
|
Rock is dead, and hip hop is dying.
The machine has got them both. The present and the future are in the hands of 14 year old kids making sounds with their electronic devices. |
the people saying "nothing is new" are the ones most quickly passed by.
in 1920, height of swing, no one could have predicted hard bop, and the insanity it caused. in 1944, no one could have predicted what simplified R&B rhythms and driving backbeat (rock n roll) would do. It immediately made eveything that came before seem OLD and DATED. Somewhere out there is a collective of people making music that we have never heard, that you will never expect, and that will instantly change everything..... There is always something new. |

passion and individualism leads to NEW MUSIC! |
no one ever predicted Kraftwerk
and no one ever saw that bambataa was going to use kraftwerk to make music for inner city NYC youth |
playing around and making music that affects the world, are two completely different things. If you think Kraftwerk were solely about drum machines, you need to go back to their catalog.

That is just not true. There is plenty of personality out there, going nowhere. There are plenty of passionate players, honing their craft day in and day out, yet going nowhere. However, raw talent and innovation generally spark attention, and then afterwards passion and personality play their part in the growing appeal, but talent always opens the door. Innovations are part of how talent improves. New technologies and new techniques allow for progress in the sound and approach. |
te next big thing in youth music may very well be a cross-pollination of Tejano with Twee-pop, mixed with a little Tuvan Throat-singing
|
I thought Body / Head was the something new......the something good coming from the Sonic Youth hiatus.
When listening to Lee Ranaldo's, "Fire Island (Phases)," I'm reminded he could so easily make the modern day version of a "classic rock album." aka Allman Brothers, Traffic, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young all rolled into one. Granted, the "concept" may not be totally new, but being able to do so today when others don't is new in it's own way. |
straws grasping at themselves

you didn't have to tell it like it is dead-battery

Isn't that everything in this fragile life? What makes the world a beautiful place is the fractal presence of the Goldilocks Principle acting at every single level of existence. Things always seem to work out, even when they don't. We are always grasping, even when we obtain, and when we fail to grasp, we fall infinitely short. ![]() |
Thus behold the utter frailty of goodness!
Except for perfect bodhicitta There is nothing able to withstand The great and overwhelming strength of evil |
Satan is a bitch. All he can do is frighten old ladies and children.

Gladly do I rejoice In the virtue that relieves the misery Of all those in unfortunate states And that places those with suffering in happiness. 2 I rejoice in that gathering of virtue That is the cause for (the Arhat's) Awakening, I rejoice in the definite freedom of embodied creatures From the miseries of cyclic existence. |
Buddhism is the religion of a rich pampered bitch after seeing how regular folks live. It hurt his widdle feelings soooo much!!!!

That is neither inaccurate or insulting.

It's Friday. My self-control is at an end |

As usual, that is a rather shallow interpretation of the powerful symbolism within "Buddhism" We are ALL the Buddha, we are ALL at different times and stages in our lives sheltered, pampered, isolated. Yet the fundamental truth of the Buddha is that suffering is a perfectly reasonable part of life, which is not too far off from Darwinian Survival of the Fittest. His feelings weren't hurt, quite the opposite, he expressed remorse at having been pampered in the first place. Further, the philosophies and insights of Buddhism provide an invaluable perspective on how to embrace life with dignity and compassion, especially when suffering adversity be it in health, finances, or politics. In Watts we got a saying, "It iz what it iz" which is the essence of the Buddha's wisdom, but something often forgotten in peoples "woe is me" approach to life. The Mayans have a similar adage, "Don't take anything in this life personal, the Universe is NOT just fucking with you." ;) Quote:
With most of the women I know, the complete opposite is true ;) ![]() Quote:
