Hmm, I only see similarities in the aesthetic, not so much the style. Well Blair Witch was all about the amateur, cheap, shoddy, shakey camera with a strangely claustraphobic atmosphere (claustraphobic yet in the vast, open woods -- crazy)... this has loads of style and is all about the exploration of high-tech devices and the camera actually doesn't shake the whole time.
Really, it's not an original idea by any means but it's an interesting way to make a somewhat big budget zombie film.
